All Malta was left in disbelief upon learning of the tragic incident on Thursday, 2 October 2025, when two Maltese couples—Kevin and Alexandra Bonnici, alongside their close friends Jeremy and Lorraine (Cynthia) Gambin from Swieqi—lost their lives after their car accidentally plunged into the sea around 4:20 p.m. during their holiday in Croatia. Remarkably, the four had travelled together for thirty years without experiencing an accident.
The shocking loss of Alexandra Bonnici, affectionately known as Sandra or Sandy to those close to her, has deeply affected many of her former colleagues at Corinthia. Throughout her career, she worked successfully in various roles within Corinthia Palace, Marina, Mistra Village and Head Office Accounts Department. She was also an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the Corinthia Social Committee.

Colleagues affectionately recalled Sandra’s lively personality and her friendly, welcoming nature, calling her a ray of sunshine because of her constant warm smile. They reminisced about the laughter they shared and her enthusiasm for celebrating all occasions.
Even in her retirement, Sandra maintained close ties with numerous former colleagues at Corinthia. “She was like a maternal figure to all of us—always available to listen and dispense wise counsel,” an appreciative friend noted. Some recollected how, when confiding in her, she responded with sincere emotion, offering much needed compassionate support during difficult moments.
